Former Chairman, People Power
*Currently in jail.
Raymond Chan Chi-chuen is a former member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council, representing the New Territories East constituency from 2012 to 2020. Chan is also the former Chairman of the People Power political party, radio presenter of Commercial Radio Hong Kong, and chief executive officer of Hong Kong Reporter.
Chan resigned from the Legislative Council in September 2020 after former Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam postponed legislative elections by one year, citing the Covid-19 pandemic. Shortly after his resignation, he was arrested in January 2021 under the National Security Law for participating in the democratic primaries for the Hong Kong Legislative Council in July 2020.
During his political career, Chan demonstrated opposition to the National Anthem Bill in the Legislative Council chamber on several occasions between May and June 2020, among which he was assaulted by a pro-Beijing lawmaker on the council floor. While Chan’s private prosecution over the pro-Beijing lawmaker’s assault was dropped by the Hong Kong Justice Department, he was arrested the following November for splashing pungent liquids and other items during the incident.
