Ng Kin-wai is a social activist. In 2019, Ng ran against a pro-Beijing incumbent in the Yuen Long District Council election, and won to become the District Councillor for the Kingswood North Constituency. 

In July 2020, he ran in the “35+” democratic primaries in the New Territories West constituency and came in fourth, receiving 20,525 votes. Ng was then arrested under the National Security Law in January 2021 for his participation in these unofficial primary elections. In May 2021, Ng was also charged with organising a “prohibited group gathering” related to a protest urging the Hong Kong Police Force to investigate the 7.21 Yuen Long Attacks on 19 July 2020.     Incident: Organising and participating in unofficial primary elections for the Hong Kong Legislative Council in July 2020

    Sentencing: 5 years, 7 months’ imprisonment (HKFP)

  • Charge: Organising a prohibited group gathering

    Incident: Organised a protest urging the Hong Kong Police Force to investigate the 7.21 Yuen long Attacks

    Sentencing: Fine of HK$10,000
