Sze Tak Loy

Political Prisoner

Sze Tak-loy 施德來 (42)

Former chairman, Hong Kong Association for Democracy and People’s Livelihood

*Currently on bail.

Sze Tak-loy was elected as a member of the Wong Tai Sin District Council in 2015. Sze was arrested in January 2021 for his participation in the “35+” unofficial primary elections in July 2020. In March 2021, Sze was granted bail after High Court judge Esther Toh said in a judgement that she agreed with the defence’s argument that Sze lost in the primaries. Although the prosecution said that Sze “had used strong words against the Hong Kong government,” the defence argued that this was “electioneering rhetoric” and that since losing in the primaries, Sze had not said anything further.
