Cheung Kim-hung, the Chief Executive of Next Digital, was arrested and detained on 10 August 2020 alongside other Next Digital over the subletting of part of Next Digital’s offices to a consulting company, which the government alleged violated the terms of the media company’s land lease. Cheung was arrested again on 17 June 2021 during a raid of the Apple Daily offices conducted by more than 500 police officers. Cheung was accused of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces under the National Security Law, as well as conspiracy to publish seditious publications.
