Hong Kong Watch holds seminar on education, healthcare, and taxation for BNOs
As part of Hong Kong Watch’s political and civic engagement series for BNOs, we held a seminar in Kingston on 28 November to discuss the essentials of life in the UK.
The event was chaired by Sam Goodman, Hong Kong Watch’s Director of Policy and Advocacy, and it focused on three essentials of life in the UK: education, healthcare and taxation.
After presentations from three speakers, there was a Q&A session, giving the audience the opportunity to ask questions to the experts on the panel.
The speakers came with a wealth of experience to speak about the role of the NHS and how to access healthcare, the education system in the UK and how to become a school governor, and how taxes are gathered and spent by the UK government.
This was the eighth event in Hong Kong Watch’s civic and political education programme, which aims to help the Hong Kong BNO community better understand the UK’s political system, how they can engage with it, what their rights are and what its impact and relevance is.
Panel speakers:
Melody Thorpe, a school governor at a local primary and secondary school.
Florence Cantle, an NHS senior manager who has trained as a general and mental health nurse and works on the recruitment of overseas nurses.
Massoud Moaddel, a Chartered Accountant from Richmond Accounting Services.
Nina Kish, a Financial Accountant from Richmond Accounting Services
This event was supported by the Greater London Authority (GLA).
