This is a summary of the key upcoming and past court dates. While we are doing our best to obtain the following information from open-source data and publicly available information, this page is not the official roster of court dates, and it is possible that there may be some accidental omissions and/or errors.

30 APRIL

West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts - Sentence, 10:30am HKT

In 2019, the following nine activists were charged with public nuisance crimes for their roles in organizing pro-democracy rallies known as the “2014 Umbrella Movement".

  • Tanya Chan (Update: postponed to 10 June)

  • Chan Kin-Man (Update: 16 months imprisonment)

  • Cheung Sau-yin (Update: 200 hours community service)

  • Chu Yiu-Ming (Update: 16 months imprisonment suspended for 24 months)

  • Chung Yiu-wa (Update: eight months imprisonment suspended for 24 months)

  • Lee Wing-tat (Update: right months imprisonment suspended for 24 months)

  • Siu Ka-chun (Update: eight months imprisonment)

  • Raphael Wong Ho-ming (Update: 8 months imprisonment)

  • Benny Tai Yiu-ting (Update: 16 months imprisonment)

District Court, 9:30am HKT

  • Eddie Chu

Eddie Chu was charged with taking part in an unauthorised Tiananmen Massacre vigil in 2020.

Update: The next hearing will take place at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court on 11 Jun 2021 at 2:30pm HKT.

District Court, 9:45am HKT

The following individuals were charged with taking part in an unauthorised Tiananmen Massacre vigil in 2020.

  • Jannelle Rosalynne Leung

  • Lester Shum Ngo-fai

  • Joshua Wong Chi-fung

  • Tiffany Yuen Ka-wai

Update: The sentencing will take place on 6 May 2021, 9:30am HKT


29 APRIL

District Court, 2:30pm HKT

  • Ventus Lau Wing-hong

    Lau was charged with inciting others to take part in an unauthorised assembly at Chater Garden in Central and refusing to obey police orders in Jan 2020.

High Court, 10:30am HKT

  • Tong Ying-kit

Tong was charged with terrorism and incitement to commit secession in relation to a protest in July 2020. He is the first person to be tried under Hong Kong’s National Security Law with no jury and he stands trial before three High Court judges. He faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment if convicted.

Update: Tong has filed a judicial review against the Department of Justice’s decision to use no jury for his trial, the hearing of the review will take place on 10 May 2021)


28 APRIL

West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts - Mention, 2:30pm HKT

  • Gordon Ng Ching-hang

Gordon Ng was charged with conspirary to commit subversion under the National Security Law


23 APRIL

High Court - Sentence

  • Au Nok-hin (Update: nine weeks imprisonment)

Au was charged with assaulting two police officers with a loudhailer during a protest in July in 2019. The government appealed against the 140-hour community service order he was originally given.

  • Lo Yat-sun, Louis (Update: 12 years imprisonment)

Lo was a member of the localist group, Hong Kong National Front. He was arrested on July 19, 2019 after police found around one kilogram of triacetone triperoxide (TATP) and raw materials for making the highly explosive chemical in an industrial unit in Tsuen Wan. The judge of the case Andrew Chan said Lo had targeted the Hong Kong government with the aim of subverting its power and causing panic in society.


16 APRIL

West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts - Sentence, 9:30am HKT

The following individuals were charged with organizing and participating in an unauthorised assembly (the 8.18 march) on 18 August 2019.

  • Jimmy Lai Chee-ying (Update: 12 months imprisonment)

  • Lee Cheuk-yan (Update: 12 months imprisonment)

  • Margaret Ng Ngoi-yee (Update: 12 months imprisonment suspended for 24 months)

  • Leung Kwok-hung (Update: 18 months imprisonment)

  • Cyd Ho Sau-lan (Update: Eight months imprisonment)

  • Albert Ho Chun-yan (Update: 12 months imprisonment suspended for 24 months)

  • Martin Lee Chu-ming (Update: 11 months imprisonment suspended for 24 months)

West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts - Sentence, 2:30pm HKT

The following individuals were charged with participating in an unauthorized assembly (the 8.31 rally) on 31 August 2019.

  • Jimmy Lai Chee-ying* (Update: eight months imprisonment)

  • Yeung Sum (Update: eight months imprisonment suspended for 12 months)

  • Lee Cheuk-yan (Update: six months imprisonment)

*The National Security Law trial began for Jimmy Lai Chee-ying today. He was charged with colluding with foreign powers at today’s hearing.

Two additional charges have been pressed against him today, they are:

1) Conspiring with his former assistant Mark Simon, national security suspect Andy Li and others to collude with foreign powers between July 2020 and February 2021;

2) Conspiring with others, including Li and legal assistant Chan Tsz-wah, to pervert the course of justice by assisting Li in "fleeing" Hong Kong between July 2020 and 23 Aug 2020.

West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts - Sentence, 2:30pm HKT

The following individuals were charged with organizing and participating in an unauthorised assembly (the 8.18 march) on 18 August 2019.

  • Leung Yiu-chung (Update: eight months imprisonment suspended for 12 months)

  • Au Nok-hin (Update: 10 months imprisonment)

14 APRIL

West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts, 2:30pm HKT

  • Chan Tsz-wah - Mention (Update: bail denied)

Chan Tsz-wah was charged with 1) conspiracy to commit collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security and 2) conspiracy to assist offender.

Update: bail denied

  • Andy Li Yu-hin - Return Day (Update: bail denied)

Andy Li was charged with 1) conspiracy to commit collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security; 2) conspiracy to assist offender and 3) possession of ammunition without a license.


13 APRIL

Eastern Magistrates’ Courts - Sentence, 9:30am HKT

  • Joshua Wong Chi-fung (Update: four months imprisonment)

Joshua Wong was charged with taking part in an unauthorised assembly and violating an anti-mask law during a demonstration in October 2019.


12 APRIL

High Court - Chambers Hearing, 2:30pm HKT

  • Jimmy Sham Tsz-kit

    Jimmy Sham was charged with conspiracy to commit subversion under the National Security Law for participating in an unofficial primary election for the Legislative Council in July 2020.
