Hong Kong Watch engages with White House officials and Members of Congress to amplify Hong Kongers’ voices in Washington, DC

Last week, Hong Kong Watch visited Washington, DC and engaged with the National Security Council (NSC) at the White House, key Members of Congress including Representative John Moolenaar, Representative James McGovern, and Representative André Carson, as well as other government departments, House Committees, and civil society organisations. Hong Kong Watch is working to expand our presence in the US, engage with our connections at the White House, and push for the release of Hong Kong’s political prisoners including Jimmy Lai.

Hong Kong Watch’s co-founder and Chair of Trustees, Aileen Calverley, and Policy and Strategy Advisor, Ray Wong, had a high-level meeting with officials from the National Security Council at the White House. The meeting highlighted the Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent statement on the Hong Kong Policy Act and the sanctions on six Hong Kong officials, which demonstrates the Trump administration’s commitment to address the challenges faced by Hong Kong and its people. The officials also emphasized that the release of Jimmy Lai is a top priority for the Trump administration, showcasing a continued commitment to support the people of Hong Kong. The discussions delved into critical topics, including Hong Kong’s role as a hub for sanctions evasion and its financial infrastructure amid potential conflicts in the Indo-Pacific region. We also addressed transnational repression against the Hong Kong diaspora, stressing the necessity for ongoing support for diasporic communities.

Our delegation, alongside Hong Kong Watch Advisor Dimon Liu, also had the privilege to meet with Representative John Moolenaar (R-MI), Chair of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the geopolitical risks in the Indo-Pacific region, including how Hong Kong is being exploited to facilitate sanctions evasion.

During a productive meeting with Representative James McGovern (D-MA), a member of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), we discussed Hong Kong’s status as a financial hub, its critical role in potential conflicts, and the threat of transnational repression faced by the Hong Kong diaspora.

Our team also met with Representative André Carson (D-IN), a member of the Select Committee on the CCP. We engaged with the offices of other members of the Select Committee, including Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Young Kim (R-CA), who also serves as the Chair of the East Asia and Pacific Subcommittee.

Hong Kong Watch had productive meetings with the offices of Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the State Department, and the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC).

香港監察擴展美國工作  會晤白宮官員及兩黨國會議員  華府稱釋放黎智英為首要任務

上週，香港監察再次造訪華盛頓，會晤美國白宮國家安全委員會（National Security Council）官員、國會議員穆理納（John Moolenaar）、麥高文（James McGovern）、André Carson，以及其他政府部門、眾議院委員會和民間社會組織。香港監察正致力擴展在美國的實地工作，與白宮官員緊密聯繫，推動釋放黎智英及其他香港政治犯。

香港監察共同創辦人兼信託董事會主席Aileen Calverley和政策及策略顧問黃台仰（Ray Wong）在美國白宮與國家安全委員會官員展開高層會議。會議期間，國安委官員指出，國務卿魯比奧（Marco Rubio）近日就《香港政策法》發表聲明及制裁六名香港官員，突顯出特朗普政府致力應對香港和香港人所面對的挑戰。官員還表示，釋放黎智英（Jimmy Lai）是特朗普政府的首要任務，顯示美國持續支持香港人。會議探討的重要主題包括香港作為規避制裁中心的角色，以及香港在印太地區潛在衝突中作為金融基礎設施的角色。我們亦討論了針對海外港人的跨國鎮壓問題，強調有必要持續支持離散社群。

代表團亦聯同香港監察顧問Dimon Liu，有幸會見共和黨眾議員兼中國共產黨問題特設委員會（Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party）主席穆理納（John Moolenaar）。會議探討印太地區地緣政治風險，包括香港被用作協助規避制裁。

我們亦與民主黨眾議員兼國會及行政當局中國委員會（Congressional-Executive Commission on China）委員麥高文（James McGovern）會面，討論香港的金融中心地位及其在潛在衝突中的關鍵作用，以及海外港人面對的跨國鎮壓威脅。

香港監察團隊會見另一位中共問題特設委員會委員、民主黨眾議員André Carson，以及其他委員的辦事處，包括民主黨眾議員Seth Moulton和共和黨眾議員兼東亞暨太平洋事務小組委員會（East Asia and Pacific Subcommittee）主席金映玉（Kim Young）。
