Hong Kong Watch condemns Hong Kong 47 sentencing at US Capitol
Yesterday, following the sentencing of 45 of the Hong Kong 47, Hong Kong Watch spoke at a press conference outside the US Congress alongside Members of Congress and other representatives of the Hong Kong diaspora.
The event featured remarks by former House of Representatives Speaker and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA-11), Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ-04), who is Chair of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, and Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY-03).
The event also featured comments from Anouk Wear, Research and Policy Advisor of Hong Kong Watch, Joey Siu, Hong Kong activist, Frances Hui, Policy and Advocacy Coordinator of the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong Foundation, Anna Kwok, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Democracy Council, Carmen Lau, International Advocacy and Program Associate of the Hong Kong Democracy Council, and Sunny Cheung, Associate Fellow of the Jamestown Foundation.
In her comments, Anouk Wear described how both Hong Kong’s 2020 National Security Law and 2024 Safeguarding National Security Ordinance are political tools designed and implemented by the Chinese Communist Party against Hong Kongers who remain in the city and around the world, including the Hong Kong 47. She also highlighted Hong Kong Watch’s new report, published yesterday, that reveals how Hong Kong increasingly leverages authoritarian tactics to dismantle the rule of law in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Watch absolutely condemns the sentences of 45 of the 47 democrats, and urges the US government to issue targeted sanctions in response.

昨天在「民主派初選47人案」宣判後，香港監察聯同美國國會議員及其他海外港人社群代表，在美國國會外舉行的記者會上發言。

香港監察研究及政策顧問華穆清（Anouk Wear）、香港社運人士邵嵐（Joey Siu）、香港自由委員會基金會（CFHK）政策及倡議統籌許穎婷（Frances Hui）、香港民主委員會（HKDC）行政總監郭鳳儀（Anna Kwok）、HKDC國際倡議及項目幹事劉珈汶（Carmen Lau），以及詹姆斯敦基金會（Jamestown Foundation）副研究員張崑陽（Sunny Cheung）亦在會上發言。
華穆清發言時講到香港2020年《國家安全法》和2024年《維護國家安全條例》如何成為中國共產黨針對47人等身在香港以至世界各地港人設計並執行的政治工具。她亦提到香港監察昨天發表的新報告，有關報告揭示香港如何愈來愈利用威權手法來摧毀香港法治。
香港監察嚴厲譴責47人案判刑，並促請美國政府點名制裁以作回應。
