Hong Kong Watch Canada promotes Youth Initiative Program 2024 at HongKonger Community Centre in Toronto

Hong Kong Watch Canada attended a job recruitment event at the HongKonger Community Centre Toronto on Saturday, 18 November 2023. The event was a huge success, with close to 800 participants in attendance. Hong Kong Watch’s co-founder and Trustee, Aileen Calverley, is a Director of the HongKonger Community Centre Toronto.

During the event, Hong Kong Watch Canada took the opportunity to promote our Youth Initiative Program 2024. This program is specifically designed to recruit talented individuals who are passionate about making a difference and working closely with Parliament. By joining as parliamentary assistants, participants have the chance to have a real impact on Canadian society. Hong Kong Watch Canada is dedicated to supporting the integration of Hong Kongers into Canadian society through civic and political engagement. The Youth Initiative Program is one of the ways in which they aim to empower individuals to actively participate in shaping their communities. 

To showcase the benefits of the program, two new Hong Kong immigrants and Open Work Permit holders who were selected as interns through the Youth Initiative Canadian Parliamentary Scheme shared their experiences. They spoke about how they got into the program and the day-to-day work they do in Parliament. Their stories were inspiring and resonated with the participants, who showed great enthusiasm and interest in the Youth Initiative Program. In fact, some participants were so eager to be a part of this unique opportunity that they took the initiative to drop off their resumes during the event. This genuine eagerness to contribute and make a difference was truly inspiring and a testament to the impact that the Youth Initiative Program can have. 

Overall, the job recruitment event was a great success for Hong Kong Watch Canada. We were able to connect with close to 800 individuals and generate significant interest in our Youth Initiative Program. By providing platforms like this program, Hong Kong Watch Canada is empowering individuals to actively engage in their communities and create positive change.
