Hong Kong Watch attends rally to commemorate third anniversary of 831 Incident

To commemorate the third anniversary of the 831 Incident during which the Hong Kong Police attacked citizens indiscriminately at the Prince Edward MTR Station in 2019, Hong Konger groups organized a rally at the Parliament Square in London on 31 August 2022 to protest against Hong Kong authorities for suppressing fundamental freedoms through police violence and white terror. Benedict Rogers, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Watch, attended the rally and delivered a speech. He condemned the brutality of the police during the 831 Incident and was disappointed that no police officer has borne responsibility for attacking citizens indiscriminately. Benedict Rogers, on behalf of Hong Kong Watch, urged countries across the world to audit the overseas properties held by Hong Kong officials and the senior management of the Hong Kong Police and adopt sanctions measures against them.

Hong Kong Watch published a research report in April 2022, which reveals that 9 Hong Kong officials and 12 members of Hong Kong’s “patriots only” legislature and their families have property overseas, including in the UK, Canada, USA, Australia, Japan, and France.
