Hong Kong Watch attends rallies in London, Washington and Toronto to commemorate the third anniversary of 612
On 12 June, representatives from Hong Kong Watch attended rallies and events in London, Washington and Toronto to commemorate the third anniversary of the 612 Protest, during which the police used unnecessary and excessive force against largely peaceful protesters.
In London, Benedict Rogers, Hong Kong Watch’s Chief Executive, attended and spoke at a rally on 12 June in Parliament Square to commemorate the third anniversary of the 612 Protest. About 4,000 people attended the rally. Click here to watch Benedict Rogers’ speech at the rally.
Prior to the rally, Benedict Rogers also spoke at a seminar, themed ‘Hong Kong Media: Could it get worse?’, as part of the Hong Kong Forum in London series. On 11 June, the day before the 612 Protest anniversary, Benedict Rogers spoke at the opening ceremony of the ‘Bricks on the road – from Hong Kong to the world’ exhibition, an event organised by Asia Democracy Network, The Artivist, Hong Kong Aid, and Hong Kong Liberty and supported by Hong Kong Watch.
Sam Goodman, Hong Kong Watch’s Director of Policy and Advocacy, and Aileen Calverley, Hong Kong Watch’s Trustee, also attended rallies organised by Hong Kongers groups to commemorate the 612 Protest in Washington DC and Toronto respectively to show their support for Hong Kongers.
