Hong Kong Watch hosts fringe event at Labour Party Conference 2022
The Labour Party Conference 2022 Event, “Hong Kong as a canary in the coal mine” seminar, was successfully held in Liverpool on 26 September 2022. This roundtable discussion at the Labour Party Conference was organised by Hong Kong Watch and East and South East Asians for Labour and brought together frontbench Shadow Ministers, pro-democracy activists, and policy experts to discuss the ongoing human rights crisis in Hong Kong, how Labour has responded, and the impact it is having on wider UK-China policy and the rest of the world.
The discussion was chaired by Sam Goodman, Director of Policy and Advocacy at Hong Kong Watch. Speakers included Catherine West MP, Shadow Minister for Asia and the Pacific, Stephen Kinnock MP, Shadow Minister for Immigration, Lee Wing-tat, former Hong Kong Pro-democracy lawmaker, and Marcus Storm, Chairman of the Fabian Society’s Defence & Security Policy Group and ExCo Member of ESEA for Labour.
