TRT World: 1.4.2021 - A dark day for Hong Kong

Nine of Hong Kong's most prominent pro-democracy campaigners have been convicted of unlawful assembly relating to the protest in Hong Kong in 2019.

Media tycoon Jimmy Lai and veteran politician Martin Lee were among those found guilty of organising an unauthorised march.

In an interview with TRT World, Hong Kong Watch’s Policy Director Johnny Patterson said: "They've been sentenced for participation in a peaceful protest which which was unnecessarily proscribed under legislation which UN has repeatedly called out for being in breach of fundamental rights. A dark day for Hong Kong."
