New Statesman: 'How the UK’s Hong Kong visa offer could still fail refugees'
On 23 February 2021, Johnny Patterson, Policy Director of Hong Kong Watch, was quoted in The New Statesman on the new BNO visa scheme.
The report says the new BNO visa scheme for Hong Kongers could pose a third defining immigration event in the UK since the Second World War, following the 1948-1971 Windrush era and EU’s post-1992 introduction of freedom of movement.
Johnny said: “Not everyone from Hong Kong is the stereotypical upper middle class banker who speaks great English,” said Patterson, “at the moment it looks like the government are delegating [integration] off to civil society.”
