Japanese Translation of the Joint International Statement

A Japanese MP kindly volunteered a Japanese translation of the international joint statement led by Lord Patten of Barnes, the last British governor of Hong Kong. We include it below for ease of Japanese parliamentarians and media. There are currently over 100 Japanese parliamentarians who have signed the joint statement, showing their support and solidarity with Hong Kong. The full list of signatories can be found here.

中国政府が一方的に香港に国家安全法を導入することに関し、私たち共同署名者らは深刻な懸念を表明します。

今回の動きは、香港の自治、法の支配、および基本的自由を包括的に損なうものです。一国二制度はまさに風前の灯火となっています。

香港の一般市民を抗議活動に駆り立てているのは、こうした深刻な懸念です。厳格な法律を制定すれば、現在の状況はよりエスカレートするのみであり、そうなれば開かれた国際都市としての香港の未来は失われます。

香港に関して中国政府が約束を守るかどうか疑わしいと国際社会が判断すれば、中国政府は他の問題に関しても約束を守るかどうか疑わしいと人々は判断するようになるでしょう。良識ある国々の政府は一致団結して、今回の動きは中英連合声明に対する明白な違反であり容認できないとの声を上げなければなりません。
