WATCH: New Episode of "In Conversation with Benedict Rogers" - Lord Alton of Liverpool
In the second episode of "In Conversation with Benedict Rogers" series, we are delighted to have as our guest Lord Alton of Liverpool, one of Hong Kong Watch's Patrons and a champion of human rights around the world.
In this interview, Lord Alton explained why he is championing human rights for Hong Kong amongst many other grave human rights challenges around the world. Ben asked Lord Alton his reflections on the implication of the proposed national security legislation to be imposed by the National People's Congress of China on the freedoms of Hong Kong, particularly freedom of religion. Lord Alton also talked about the significance of international action such as the joint statement led by Lord Patten of Barnes to which he was a signatory alongside over 200 parliamentarians and policymakers around the world. On UK's responsibility to BNO passport holders and those vulnerable frontline activists in Hong Kong in need of protection, Lord Alton is planning to organise a letter across both Houses of Parliament saying the UK should lead an international initiative, starting with the Commonwealth, we would guarantee second citizenship to all people in Hong Kong if the Chinese Communist Party continued to encroach on human rights in Hong Kong.
