Hong Kong Watch Trustees met US State Department and Congressional Committees to raise China UPR and the Human Rights and Democracy Act
Hong Kong Watch Chairman Benedict Rogers and Trustee Aileen Calverley had constructive meetings with the US State Department, Congressional Committees and think tanks to discuss actions which US and Congress should take to address the repressive situation in Hong Kong. During the meetings, the Trustees discussed the Human Rights & Democracy Act and Hong Kong Policy Act and recommended the US to put forward recommendations on Hong Kong’s human rights and freedoms in the Universal Period Review (UPR) on China.
It was a great honour to meet with Ambassador Sam Brownback, the Ambassador at large for International Religious Freedom; Laura Stone office the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary, David Fuller and Shayma Janet from the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, US State Department; Staff from The Democrats Leader Nancy Pelosi, Congressman Brad Sherman, Congressman Joe Wilson, Congressman Chris Smith and Senator Marco Rubio; US -China Economic & Security Review Commission; Congressional-Executive Commission on China; Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific of the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs; The Heritage Foundation; International Republican Institute; Human Rights Watch and Victims of Communism.
