Hong Kong Watch invited to private meeting with the UK Home Secretary on BNO
On 10 December 2020, Hong Kong Watch were invited to be part of a private round-table with the UK Home Secretary Priti Patel to discuss the BNO policy and its implementation.
The wide-ranging discussion was co-organised by London Mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey, as well as the coordinator of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, Luke De Pulford. Attendees at the discussion included Benedict Rogers and Johnny Patterson of Hong Kong Watch, a representative of the grassroots group Stand With Hong Kong, Beatrice Li and the immigration lawyer Perseus.
Benedict Rogers said:
"We really appreciate this opportunity to meet the Home Secretary to discuss the details of the implementation of the new BNO policy, which is an historic, generous and courageous offer to millions of Hong Kongers in their hour of need.
We welcome the Home Secretary's leadership on this policy and hope that she will find ways to ensure that it works for everyone who is eligible. We also hope the government will identify ways to assist young, vulnerable Hong Kongers in danger who are not currently covered by this policy"
