Thousands join global rallies held in support of the release of the 12 Hong Kong youths

Last weekend rallies took place across the world organised by a variety of Hong Kong groups calling for the release of the 12 Hong Kong youths who have been detained in Shenzhen for over two months.

Rallies in support of the 12 were held in London, New York, San Francisco, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Taipei, as well as in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy.

In Taiwan more than 3,000 people took part in a march in support of the 12.

Hong Kong Watch’s Chief Executive Benedict Rodgers and fellow Luke de Pulford spoke alongside Nathan Law at the rally held in London at Tower Bridge and attended by around three hundred people.

Benedict Rogers in his speech said:

“They are in a prison in China, and we are here to cry out to the world to say free the 12 Hongkongers. Return them to Hong Kong.”

“If [their return] cannot happen immediately, at least allow them to have lawyers of their choice, to have medical access if they needed, to have contact with their family.”

Nathan Law in his first public speech since being forced into exile by the introduction of the National Security Law, said:

“It’s an important time to vow our support to the Hong Kong people and the 12 detained in mainland China.”

“Our demand is simple: democracy and autonomy. And we will not give up.”
