German Greens Party calls for independent investigation of police violence against protestors
On the recent escalation of violence in Hong Kong, Margarete Bause, Green party group's spokeswoman for human rights and humanitarian aid, and Jürgen Trittin, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, said in the statement published on 11 November (translated into English):

Another Hong Kong demonstrator has been shot with live bullets by a police officer. The repeated case and the footages show a dramatic escalation of violence in Hong Kong. The use of firearms and violence against unarmed demonstrators must be stopped at all costs.
There can only be a peaceful solution to the situation in Hong Kong on the basis of Hong Kong's Basic Law, to which China has fully committed. We support the demonstrators' call for an independent investigation of police violence. Only in this way will there be de-escalation.
Above all, the current situation must not serve as a pretext for cancelling the upcoming district council elections. These elections offer Hong Kong's citizens the only democratic way of influencing the development in Hong Kong.
We call on all sides to remain peaceful and call for the elections to be held as planned.

Erneut ist in Hongkong ein Demonstrant von einem Polizisten mit scharfer Munition angeschossen worden. Der wiederholte Fall und die dazu bekannt gewordenen Bilder zeigen eine dramatische Eskalation der Gewalt in Hongkong. Der Einsatz von Schusswaffen und Gewalt gegen unbewaffnete Demonstrantinnen und Demonstranten muss unter allen Umständen unterbunden werden.
Es kann für die Situation in Hongkong nur eine friedliche Lösung und auf Grundlage des "Basic Law" Hongkongs geben, zu dem sich China vollumfänglich bekannt hat. Wir unterstützen die Forderung der Demonstrierenden nach unabhängiger Aufarbeitung der Polizeigewalt. Nur so wird es eine Deeskalation geben.
Die aktuelle Situation darf vor allem nicht als Vorwand dienen, die anstehenden Bezirksratswahlen abzusagen. Diese Wahlen bieten den Hongkonger Bürgerinnen und Bürgern die einzige Möglichkeit auf demokratischem Weg Einfluss auf die Entwicklungen in Hongkong zu nehmen.
Wir fordern alle Seiten auf, friedlich zu bleiben, und appellieren, die Wahlen wie geplant durchzuführen.
