LISTEN: Benedict Rogers' Interview on BBC World Service Newshour

Hong Kong Watch Chief Executive Benedict Rogers was interviewed by Razia Iqbal on BBC World Service Newshour today about the Chinese Communist Party's dismantling of Hong Kong's democracy, freedoms and autonomy on 11 March 2021. He said:

“A coordinated response is extremely important, when countries act in a piecemeal approach, it’s much easier for Beijing to play the off against each other and pick them off one by one. If there’s a coordinated effort among likeminded countries that is likely to be effective.

We have to move now from an approach that involves strong statements and words to the conclusions that words are not enough and there needs to be actions and that actions should include targeted Magnitsky style sanctions against officials in the regime in Beijing and in the government in Hong Kong.”
